A board training session (usually 3 hours) can be held during your group's regularly scheduled meeting time. The training, which would be adapted to your group's needs, would include roles and responsibilities of board members, the difference between policy and management decisions, and the importance of recognizing one another's leadership styles.

In addition, a board retreat (usually 5 hours), could be held in conjunction with the training session. At the retreat, your board will create a shared vision for the work of your group or agency. They will then be led through a planning process by which they will set long-term and short-term goals and objectives, and create an action plan with tasks, timeframes and responsibilities.
